Local councils and other regulatory bodies have the power to issue stop work, compliance and control orders in accordance with schedule 5 of the Environment Planning and Assessment Act 2017 (NSW). If you receive such a notice, it is important that you understand what is required and communicate with the relevant issuing body within the timeframe you have been given. Failure to comply with these orders can lead to prosecution in the Land and Environment Court.
